Recruitment incentives

What is the recruitment incentive?

The GoHealth BC Recruitment and Retention Incentive (the “GoHealth Incentive”) is designed to encourage nurses to join the BC public sector. This means that eligible nurses who join GoHealth BC can receive up to $15,000!

Who is eligible?

For the purposes of the GoHealth Incentive, “newly hired” means nurses who join GoHealth BC between April 1, 2024 and March 31, 2025 who meet the following criteria:

  • Nurses from outside of BC who join GoHealth BC.
  • Nurses who are new to the BC public sector (who have not been employed by a BC health authority or any other HEABC employer, or by a First Nation service provider or the First Nations Health Authority, or by a private/affiliate long-term care/assisted living employer in BC) for a minimum of 12 months prior to joining GoHealth BC.

Nurses employed by third-party staffing agencies are not excluded from the GoHealth Incentive, if otherwise eligible under the criteria above.

Newly hired GoHealth BC specialty nurses (regular full-time and regular part-time)

Newly hired nurses who work and hold certifications in the following service areas:

  • Emergency room
  • Intensive care units
  • Operating room
  • Maternity

And who are hired to regular positions, in which they are scheduled to work in those designated service areas as part of their regular rotation, will receive a $10,000 recruitment incentive with a 12-month return of service (ROS) commitment.

In addition, should a newly hired specialty nurse work 1,500 productive hours as a GoHealth BC nurse within the 12-month period from the date of hire, they will also receive an additional one-time $5,000 retention incentive.

Other newly hired GoHealth BC nurses (regular full-time and regular part-time)

Newly hired nurses other than specialty nurses (“newly hired non-specialty nurses”) who are hired to regular positions will receive a $5,000 recruitment incentive with a 12-month ROS commitment.

In addition, should a newly hired non-specialty nurse work 1,500 productive hours as a GoHealth BC nurse within the 12-month period from the date of hire, they will also receive an additional one-time $3,000 retention incentive.

Return of service

To satisfy the ROS, newly hired employees must remain employed in a regular position for 12 months from their date of hire and must work at least 1,000 hours within that 12-month period.
